St John Virgin Islands J’ouvert parade & extravaganza!!

A queen and her consort.

I came to the virgin islands via a family request for the holiday. What the hell sounds like something different than the same’ol backyard burgers and dogs. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about food, friends, and fbeer. Any reason to get together and laugh count me in. It’s just sometimes you need a different experience to shake you out of your routine.

Regal in feathers

A smile that can brighten a parade

Enter the St John Virgin Island holiday parade or J’ouvert. A street carnival celebrating the emancipation with a dash of Fourth of July sprinkled in. What an incredible event, the music is live and catchy, everyone is smiling and happy, the smell of vender’s grilling food, the beautiful dancers, and best of all the wild and colorful costumes!

Happy J’ouvert

How can you not get caught up in the chorus and start dancing with everyone. It’s infectious and uplifting all at the same time.

Wakanda FOREVER!!

As for a different experience to shake up my routine “Oh Hell Yea!!” I loved every hot, sweaty, loud, moment of it. Met some new friends from St Thomas, Ran into a Longhorn brother, and drank lots of unknown fruity drinks with WAAAAAAAAAAY too much alcohol.

Beautiful dancers

The laughter is infectious

If you ever get an opportunity to witness or better yet participate in St John’s J’ouvert run don’t walk and dive into it head first. It’s an experience you will never forget and it’s memory will bring a smile to your face when you recall it.

Cheers,
Island Rambler
